Julie Bowen opens up about chasing after three small boys.
The "Modern Family" actress is a mom of three: Oliver, 3, and twins John and Gus, 1. She jokes about struggling to comprehend that she’s a parent: "It was harder to get my driver’s license than to get pregnant and give birth. Then you go home with them and you’re like, ‘Are you kidding?! I don’t know what I’m doing.’ I’m still in shock every time my 3-year-old goes ‘MOM!’ I’m like, ‘ME???’”
One thing that keeps her focused and energized is running every day: "Running is the quickest endorphin hit I can get. I like to do it really early in the morning, before everyone gets up. It gives me a clear head and sort of resets the clock. It’s like, ‘Okay, I got that out of the way. Now I can deal with people.’” She’s shooting "Modern Family" full time, running after three kids, and also training for a half-marathon! “I have trouble sleeping. I am usually up before 5 a.m. and running before 6. I’m training for a half-marathon, and I’m up to 45 minutes a day. I do not consider this to be healthy—I consider it sleep-deprivation.”
Julie says one thing she misses since having kids is a little morning ritual she and her husband used to share: "My husband and I have this thing we call the re-rack. That’s when you get up in the morning, have breakfast, look at each other, and you’re like, ‘Let’s go back to bed,’ and then you sleep again. That is not anywhere on the menu now. There’s no re-racking."
