  • The solution to any problem these days might as well be “add a rainbow.” (The other solution to any problem is “smother it in cheese.”) Surprise your kiddos’ with a colorful dinner makeover with this easy rainbow pasta tossed with butter and parmesan cheese for an easy dinner even the pickiest eaters will love! While us adults might not find rainbow pasta particularly appetizing to look at, kids will be amazed! Be warned though – now they’ll ask for it every time.

You might be thinking you’ll never have time for this rainbow pasta DIY, but it only takes minutes! The color begins working instantly so you achieve vibrant colors very quickly. Then you rinse the noodles and serve with your desired sauces or toppings. To keep the rainbow noodles showing, I toss them in butter and parmesan, but your kids’ favorite sauce will still make this a *magical* meal. Ingredients:

    • Choice of noodles, cooked
    • Food coloring
    • Ziplock bags
    • Butter, optional
    • Shredded parmesan cheese, optional

    Directions:

Step 1: Cook noodles according to package instructions. Any noodles will work! Strain and run with cool water to stop noodles from cooking.

Step 2: In each ziplock bag, combine about 1-2 tbsp water and 4-8 drops of food coloring until vibrant. Adjust the ratios of water and food coloring according to how much pasta you're dyeing. Repeat with a bag of each color for your rainbow (I used pink, blue, purple, green and yellow).

Step 3: Add about the same amount of noodles to each bag and close tightly. Squish lightly with your hands to distribute the color. Set noodles sit in food coloring for 1-2 minutes.

Step 4: Strain the noodles again (one color at a time) and rinse with water until it runs clear. Move rinsed pasta to a plate or storage container.

Step 5: Melt butter in noodles and top with shredded parmesan if desired. Otherwise, top with desired sauce, leave plain or store in an airtight container for later. Colors may transfer between noodles over time.
