In this lovely orange chocolate chip sorbet, we celebrate the delicious flavor of winter citrus, while creating it into something bright and refreshing to welcome spring.
This is best served immediately after it's ready, as it will have an unbelievably smooth, almost creamy texture. Still divine when it's frozen further, it will become much firmer and icier. Either way, it will satisfy your sweet tooth, make your kids happy, and impress your dinner guests as an elegant dessert. Oh, and did I mention that it's packed with vitiman C!?
Chocolate Chip Orange Sorbet Recipe
Creamy meets tangy in this frozen dessert taste explosion!

Servings: About 8
orange zest: 2 tablespoons (from about 2 medium-sized oranges)
orange juice: 3 cups (if using fresh, you'll need about 10 small to medium-sized oranges)
granulated sugar: ¾ cup
vanilla extract: 1 tablespoon
crushed ice: 4 cups
mini semisweet chocolate chips: ¾ cup
Step 1: In a medium-sized pot, combine the orange zest, juice, sugar, and vanilla.
Step 2: Place the pot over medium-high heat and bring to a boil. Immediately reduce to a low and simmer until the sugar has dissolved, about 1 minute.
Step 3: Remove from the heat, pour into a shallow container, and cool completely---about 1 hour at room temperature.
Step 4: Pour the mixture in a very powerful blender along with the ice. Blend on high until it's as smooth as possible.
Step 5: Fold in the chocolate chips. At this point, the texture will be similar to that of a slushy.
Step 6: Add the mixture to an ice cream machine and freeze according to the manufacturer's directions.
Notes: I love the crunch and taste of the chocolate with the sweet orange, but if you want to keep this dessert fat free, feel free to omit the chocolate.
