Tempranillo is a grape variety known for producing red wines from the Rioja region of Spain.
Tempranillo wines are also produced in New World wine regions as well. Matchbook’s Tempranillo is grown in the Dunnigan Hills of California and is loaded with rich flavors of red and black fruit, as well as clove and vanilla flavors.
Matchbook Tempranillo is a made up of 90% Tempranillo, 5% Graciano, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. The blending of Graciano and Cabernet Sauvignon give the wine more depth, richness and help the structure of the wine. I loved the tannic structure of this wine, a little bigger and bolder than Tempranillo wine from Spain. The vanilla and toasted flavors are from the 18 months of aging in the oak barrel. The red raspberry and cherry flavors were nice on the palate and there was just enough spicy kick at the finish.
The following foods pair nicely with Matchbook Tempranillo:
~ Spicy Mexican Dishes (Chicken Enchiladas)
~ Prosciutto Pizza
~ Pasta with Pesto Sauce
~ Eggplant Parmesan
~ Burgers with bacon
~ Did I mention BACON?!???! Tempranillo wines are delicious with bacon!
