With all the recent health scares from dogs eating manufactured dog jerky treats, it’s great to have the peace of mind of knowing exactly what goes into the treats you fed your pet. Our dog Emily loves jerky treats; nothing will make her sit up and take notice more than homemade beef jerky dog treats!
I came up with this super easy recipe to make her homemade jerky treats to keep on hand. They’re not hard to make, and all you need are a few simple ingredients you probably already have in your cupboard! These jerky treats don’t require any extra salt or marinade, because your pet doesn’t need it!
Beef Jerky Dog Treat
DIY these all natural dog treats for you pooch.

Servings: 20 strips
beef, your choice of cut: 1 pound
garlic powder: 1 teaspoon
dried parsley: 1 teaspoon
Step 1: Cut the beef into ½ wide strips. You can use any cut of beef, especially the lower cost cuts. Your dog doesn’t care if their jerky treats are a little tough, and they may even prefer them that way!
Step 2: Rub on the garlic powder and parsley, and work it through the beef strips.
Step 3: Bake the strips on a baking sheet at 170--180 degrees Fahrenheit for about 40 minutes.
Step 4: If you have a dehydrator, lay the jerky strips in the dehydrator and dehydrate them at around 150 degrees Fahrenheit for about 4 hours. If your dehydrator doesn’t have a temperature control, use the highest setting and check the jerky every hour or so for dryness.
Step 5: Once your beef jerky dog treats are finished drying you can store them in an airtight container for several weeks, but they don’t usually last that long around our house! Once our dog Emily knows we have fresh beef jerky treats on hand she gives us her best good dog pose regularly to win over as many treats as possible!
